Will A New Camera Help? | Dallas Texas Wedding Photographer

Every time we shoot weddings, events, or potraits, one of the top questions is “What kind of camera is that?”.  People usually assume that the good pictures come from a good camera…the answer is yes and no.  Larissa and I use all Nikon equipment.  Nikon cameras, Nikon lenses, batteries, you get the picture.  We like Nikon.  There are lots of photographers that use the same equipment that we do, but achieving good photos is more than good equipment.

The main thing a good camera will get you is the ability to take pictures in less than optimum conditions.  For example, wedding receptions are usually dark, dim, and overall the worse lighting you could possibly imagine.  Guest with point and shoot cameras will have a very hard time getting a nice picture.  The Nikon D700s we use allow us to take amazing pictures in near dark circumstances.  View some of the pictures under weddings at www.chavvon.com and you’ll see.

Most of taking good pictures is indentifying a certain pose or situation, taking the picture and editing that picture.  Most of the time, when we take a picture, we already have an editing technique in mind.  That could be old school, black and white, a cool texture, etc.  Take pictures with a vision, don’t just point and click.  Think beforehand how lighting will look in black an white, will the shadows make the face too dark, etc.  If you can think of all of this before hand, you can get your point and shoot camera photos looking good, any upgrade will just take your pictures to the next level.
